Rifle Falls State Park…

Rifle Falls State Park is a beautiful natural area located near the town of Rifle in western Colorado, United States. Known for its stunning waterfalls, lush greenery, and limestone caves, the park offers a variety of recreational activities and a serene atmosphere. We did have to pay $10 to get into the State Park unless you have a State Park pass. Here’s more information about Rifle Falls State Park:

Waterfalls: The highlight of Rifle Falls State Park is its magnificent triple waterfall. The falls cascade over a 70-foot limestone cliff, creating a picturesque scene. The continuous flow of water throughout the year adds to the park’s allure and provides a soothing backdrop for visitors.

Limestone Caves: In addition to the waterfalls, Rifle Falls State Park features several limestone caves. These caves, formed over thousands of years, are a popular attraction for visitors. The state park ranger did tell us that we can walk into the caves.

Hiking Trails: The park offers a network of hiking trails that wind through the lush forested areas and along the creek. The Rifle Falls Trail is a short and easy hike that leads directly to the waterfall viewing area. The Coyote Trail and Bobcat Trail provide longer and more challenging options, allowing visitors to explore the park’s diverse landscape. We took the smallest (Coyote Trail) trail which was a 45 minute to walk or hike on and did have a few small steps to walk on.

Camping and Picnicking: Rifle Falls State Park provides camping facilities, including both tent and RV camping sites. The campsites are nestled among the trees, offering a peaceful and natural setting for overnight stays. The park also features picnic areas equipped with tables and grills, making it a great spot for a family outing or a leisurely picnic. Camping is about $30 per night and they do have limited space (13 sites). If you a spot you do need to make a reservations ahead of time.

Wildlife and Nature Observation: The park is home to a variety of wildlife species, including deer, elk, foxes, and various bird species. Birdwatching enthusiasts can spot songbirds, raptors, and waterfowl throughout the park. The lush vegetation and tranquil surroundings also make it an ideal place for nature photography and quiet contemplation.

Fishing: Rifle Falls State Park provides opportunities for fishing in East Rifle Creek, which flows through the park. Anglers can try their luck at catching rainbow and brown trout. It’s important to check and adhere to the Colorado fishing regulations and have a valid fishing license. We did see lots of people fishing in the area.

Winter Activities: During the winter months, Rifle Falls State Park offers opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The park’s peaceful atmosphere and snowy landscapes create a serene winter experience.
